With the Old Breed by EB Sledge

If you're interested in WW2 at all, I highly recommend this book to you. It is not a detailed description of the campaigns he was in so to speak; it gives you a rough idea (I only say this because it isn't possible to comprehend being in such a situation without actually being there) of what a Marine in the Pacific went through during WW2. The author's blunt honesty and descriptions of the fighting are what really make this book so unique. Another great autobiography to read is Guy Sajer's The Forgotten Soldier, though there has been some questions to its authenticity. You won't be disappointed in this book.

yeah, I read that back in College, awesome book. I ordered his follow up book called China Marine, but never checked it out from work. It's still sitting on the shelf. Pacific theater at its best...
