New AR I am looking at
Okay, so I have been doing some looking around, and I am seriously looking at getting the following gun:
Sig Sauer 516 Semi-Automatic 223 Remington/5.56 NATO 30+1 Barska AW11078 - Handguard Rail Bipod Trijicon ACOG 4x32 Scope TA31 What do you guys think about that gun, site, and overall system? Again, in other posts I have mentioned that I am looking to get a really good rifle to play with, but also be a bad ass gun. Any thoughts? Last edited by jetnet; 09-02-2012 at 08:41 PM. |

Re: New AR I am looking at
nononononono
anything sig since about 2004 is shit, complete utter shit. If youre seriously interested in an AR, and you want to spend that kind of money, get a daniel defense, or a BCM. Also, do not buy anything made by Baraska, if you need a bipod, get a harris with a larue, KAC or ADM adaptor. Trijicon anything is good, but for less money you can get a vortex viper 1-4, and have a more well rounded optic. I know you like sigs bro, so do I. As long as they were made in the 90s. Their US QC went to shit a while back, i really would avoid like the plauge.

Re: New AR I am looking at
Okay, I was about to reply back to this anyway and say that I found that Harris on Larue's site, and was going to get that one instead.
The reason I liked that Trijicon was because it was an ACOG, and I liked the BDC that it has. I looked through some other scopes, and I saw what they were using for their BDC, which is usually just a dot, but no measurement like the ones used in the Trijicon. ![]() That is the version of the Trijicon which makes the most since to me, and helps with determining distance without a range finder. As far as the Sigs go.... Man, I love my Sigs. It's going to be hard for me to go look at that thing today and not buy it. |

Re: New AR I am looking at
just because it says sig on it doesnt mean its as good as your 226 bro. Im telling you for that money daniel defense is twice the gun.

Re: New AR I am looking at
Yeah.... ummm.. I'm gonna need a mod to go ahead and close this thread. Mmmkay?
Sorry man. I looked into Daniel Defense, and they are back ordered until Mid-2014. Not going to wait that long for a gun. I checked all my local dealers, and they all said the same thing, "Good luck finding one of those." So I looked at the LMT and LaRue's. I liked all of them, but I talked to a Navy Seal, and he said that the Sig was a damn good gun, and I wouldn't have any problems. I told him want you said about quality control here in the states, and he disagreed. He said that all rifles have been produced here in America, so there were never any German Sig rifles, and that as far as the hand guns go, the slides are much better than the German versions. [NOTE: I am not going to get into this debate, as I can not back up anything he is saying. I am just telling you what he said. I will be glad to point him to you, and you two can skull fuck each other till your satisfied. ] Sorry man, the deal they gave me on the gun, scope and mount was way too good for me to pass up. I'll keep my eyes out for a Daniel Defense, but for now I went with the Sig. |

Re: New AR I am looking at
two things.
First, your SEAL buddy is a shooter, not a gunsmith. Its like asking a driver about a cars potential issues instead of a mechanic. Second, his experience with SIG is limited to the MK25, basically an upgraded p226, and possibly the 552 (which is exclusivly made at Sig headquarters. As far as finding the daniel defense, I could help you with that. All that said, in the end its your gun. If youre dead set on it, buy it, and take it to a competent gunsmith and ask him to check the staking on the bolt carrier key, the receiver extension, and to check the gas port size. Take the free opinions and advice for what they are worth.

We haven't heard from him since. It's a safe bet to assume that the lesser quality Sig blew up in his hand, upon shooting it
