Obama's new spending plan

Apparently it means spending over 2 million dollars of OUR tax money to campaign for the next election. This covers the cost of the purchase of the 2 custom-built buses, and I'm sure all the food, diesel, and misc. costs of the 3-day 3-state tour...

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_1...60-503544.html

Mind you, this comes after he lambasted the CEOs who had corporate jets, and has pushed for buses and heavy duty trucks to lower their "green house gas" emissions.

Re: Obama's new spending plan

One of the two will be used by the challenger during the election once they qualify for secret service protection. It's a protective detail decision wholly by the Secret Service. Now, I do think the campaigns should defray the cost of operation, but this isn't something partisan or particularly wasteful given the threats high profile pols are facing in this climate. Even if you dislike this particular guy's politics, hopefully you want POTUS to be safe, because that's what the USSS is all about. POTUS. Period.

Re: Obama's new spending plan

How about the billions spent on a war that no one wants us involved in?

Re: Obama's new spending plan

I have enjoyed watching him not do what he said he was going to do.

Re: Obama's new spending plan

I think I saw on factcheck.org or something similar that he had kept more promises than broken. Could be wrong though, I forget

Re: Obama's new spending plan

The Iraq war has been over Merls & Jet....you guys are nitpicking. Occupation has a bad connotation, but that's what it is now. An occupation, not a war.

When was the last time you heard about soldiers getting attacked on a daily basis? The Sunni tribes got together with their "Awakening Council" and stopped the national insurgency. The national insurgents turned on al Qaeda. Al Sadr and other Shiite militias laid down their arms. The surge worked to bring security when it was needed.

Now that the heavy fighting is over, the most important remaining part of this war was access to the world's largest remaining energy reserve. Why would we pull out after all the deaths and all the money we've poured into the war? This war wasn't just about WMDs that never existed, the plan was to get in and never leave.

We're at 50,000 troops, and that's where we're going to stay, forever. Just like Germany, Korea, and Japan. We fought for our national interest in Iraq, and we're supposed to give it up after tens of thousands dead/injured and hundreds of billions of dollars spent? Someone needs to protect our access to those oil fields because without oil, we have no economy.

In case you didn't listen to the clip, here it is written out

"I will promise you this: that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do: I will get our troops home, we will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank."
